About to take the plunge into Winter living aboard and cruising in our recentl acquired Allmand31 Tall Rig,"Tranquility". Retired and after 20 years of the long cold six months Ohio winter here on the shores of Lake Erie decided this might be the best way to continue live and sail affordably. Right now we are searching for a marina to fit our needs for dockage for a few weeks or monthly probably in the Charlotte Harbor region. Currently 'on the hard' at Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage. Probably prefer a sailor friendly marina. Fortunately our vesselonly draws 3'10". We have so much to learn and will look to the liveaboard and cruising community for much helpful advice and experience.

Hi Mike, welcome! Brand new myself, but this is a great group. I’m in a similar situation only looking around the east side of FL. Good luck!

Welcome aboard. While you’re searching for a marina, don’t forget to keep an eye out for slip owners on Craigslist in your area. Slip owners here in Longboat Key Moorings have been known to rent their slips just to cover the payments, often at half the cost the Association charges, and live aboard’s are welcome. Additionally, private slips pop up now and then in back of residences.

One local sailor advised pvt slip owners do not allow stay on board. I will revisit based on your comment. Not finding marina availability. Access to services, supplies, important this first season.

What services and supplies are important?
