Seems as though it's going to be BOTH the red tide and the blue-green algae! :x

Well, Helen, after all, you East Coasters are generally considered to be more colorful than us Gulf siders. :D

Well, I won't argue with that, but I'd prefer the color to come from inside, not from the water!!!

Looks like it’s getting better on the East Coast at least. Here’s the latest Red Coast report.

Dead fish odor is back, as are the vultures. The Admiral, who is living off the Island in a hotel for the time being, sent me this sample data on the Gulf Coastal area most afflicted, and it shows our Island as Red Tide central.

Yeah. I think the Admiral has had it with Sarasota. A real paradise but she has no tolerance for the red tide. Others report no affects, but she came home from the hotel for only two hours the other day....had to take her right back. :|

I understand. I have so many allergies that I would probably have a similar reaction. Maybe it's time to take that loop cruise? You could do it backwards, so that it would be spring by the time you get up north, maybe.

Poor baby... it is looking a bit greener here but still not where it needs to be. The cooler weather does make everything far more pleasant. Hope things get better down your way soon.

It's especially hard when Eva can't be at home because of the red tide. Or you could run Bucky down south, then come up this side. Jax has a lot going on for Christmas, including some good music. And so long as you don't come as far as Egan's Creek, you could avoid the beer tax. Eva could meet you in Ft. Lauderdale. Then the two of you and the cats could take your time coming up.

It looks as if we’ll finally need to put down one of the cats, ...just in too much discomfort. He’s been living in the hotel with Eva for a couple of weeks but hasn’t improved at all. We wondered if perhaps the Red Tide situation was also hampering any recovery, but probably not. Our other cat is doing quite well so travel would be easier with just him along.

The odor from more fish kills was evident today. Vultures everywhere, even soiling the boat. At least for now, I think we’re Red Tide central. Happy Turkey to everyone, and looking forward to a change in situation in the next couple of weeks. Eva doesn’t want to be hotel bound for Christmas.

SOrry to hear about the cat. WHen you mentioned he was sick, I also hoped that being away from the red tide would help him. It's not easy to say goodby to a beloved companion. My dogI has been having trouble, too. I don't think it's the algae, because it started before we came back down here, but was very mild and intermittant. It doesn't seem to be getting worse, but it is troubling. I've got to take her to the vet. FIrst, of course, I have to find one!

Well, we finally had to do it. The Admiral is back home but minus one black cat. Heart breaking, but what can one do. These last two cool days have been the cleanest air in a long time. I even bought several of those canned oxygen thingies (like the ones they use for marathons and tri-athalons) just in case the Admiral goes into another panic. So far, so good. Heck, I might even get some work done on the boat this week! Here’s the latest red tide report. Still evident, but at least it’s a bit better here on Longboat Key.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your black cat. It's hard to lose one, even harder when you have to take that last drive with them. I hope the healing for both of you will be swift. I think the portable O2 tanks are a good idea. The latest climate report isn't good news for us. Nights will be warmer, in the 90s, and the water won't get cool enought to kill the cyanobacter ''nor the red tide. Yuck. I hope eva's health is better, and stays that way.

This weeks red tide distribution map is the most promising in quite a while. We still have red tide, but the cooler weather might be a supressing factor. The Admiral and I were at a Red Tide Meeting today, hosted by the Mayor and Council of Longboat Key. It seems there are many more factors involved in the production and maintenance of the Red Tide Bloom. Here’s the latest:
